After a long struggle with Alzheimers, Irene Lillis Moschella (nee Armstrong), 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep August 24, 2018 at the Sunrise Senior Living Facility. She was born on February 28, 1926 in West Pittston, PA. She married her soulmate, Gene Lillis in 1945 and they had a son Gene, Jr. in 1946. Irene had many different jobs, the most notable being the Norwood Diner, Freeds Furniture in Chester, and Leaseway Transportation in Philadelphia. Before her retirement in 1989 she worked as a Senior Account Clerk for the Board of Chosen Freeholders in Cape May where she was honored for her service. She loved to dance, travel, garden, and craft. After taking classes in dried flower arranging at Linvilla Orchards, she would take her beautiful creations to sell at Flea Markets. Irene and Gene bought their first trailer down the shore in 1972 and never looked back. She lived, worked, and went to the beach inviting her son’s family to join in the fun. She said living there was like being on vacation all the time. She is predeceased by her first husband Eugene Lillis who died in 1979, her mother Winifred, father William Armstrong; her brother Kenneth and sister Doris Battan.
Irene is survived by her ex-husband Dominick Moschella of Absecon, NJ; her son Gene Lillis (Anne Marie); her grandsons Gene (Chris), Steve (Judy), and Dan (Lori); 8 great grandchildren; her brother Elwood Armstrong; sisters Janet Bergdoll, Elaine Laub, and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral service Tuesday 11am at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, PA, 19015. Visitation Tuesday 10-11am at the funeral home. Burial LawnCroft Cemetery, Linwood, PA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Holisticare Hospice, 685 Kromer Ave., Berwyn, PA, 19312.
