Stephen P. Yorden, 85, of Brookhaven, a World War II veteran died peacefully at his home on February 18, 2007 after a brief illnes. Born in St. Benedict, Pa, Mr. Yorden resided in Brookhaven for over 50 years. Mr. Yorden retired as a Chief Warrant Officer from the United States Navy in 1960 after serving for 20 years.He was a decorated veteran; a Pearl Harbor Survivor, served aboard 6 ships, fought in over 30 battles, as well as surviving a Typhoon in 1944 where his ship rolled 82 degrees. He was instrumental in training at the Naval Fighting School in Philadelphia. After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Yorden worked in the construction/quarry business for over 45 years with his brother, Raymond Yorden. He retired from Pyramid Land Development in 2003. He was a member of the Suburban Contractors Association, a former 7th District Director of the Pearl Harbor Survivors’ Association, former Brookhaven Fire Fighter, and a recent member of the VFW. He was an active participant at Pearl Harbor Survivor Association conventions, Tin Can Sailor and various ship reunions. Mr. Yorden was the son of the late Victoria (nee Noverta) Pavlock and Mike Yorden and husband of 52 years to the late Rosella (nee Jewett) Yorden. He was survived by his son, Michael Yorden of Aston, daughters Pamela Bonkowski of Brookhaven, and Carla Harsch of Brookhaven, brothers Raymond Yorden of Brookhaven, James Pavlock of Aston, sisters Martha Saunders of Wallingford, Stella Ponchock of Carrolltown, and Mary Slowik of Wallingford. He was the loving grandfather of Michael Bonkowski, Tracy Wallace, and Christopher Harsch and greatgrandfather of Bret Bonkowski and Alana Reina. The funeral service will take place 8pm Thursday evening at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. Friends may call Thursday evening 6pm-9pm at the funeral home. Friends and family will leave the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home at 8am on Friday for a 10:30am service at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County, Pa.
