James F. Johnson, Sr., passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at Riddle Hospital. Born and raised in Mt. Vernon, IL, he moved to the Philadelphia area 64 years ago. He proudly served in the Navy for 8 years and after that time he worked for a variety of different companies. He ultimately finished his career by working as a steamfitter at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia, where he retired after 12 years.
James was always a diehard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He enjoyed hobbies such as hunting and fishing, playing baseball, and taking trips to the casino. He was part of the large garden community in Philadelphia, where he took great pride in tending to his garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with everyone. He also had the honor of being the treasurer of his garden club.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Carmela (nee Fichana), his cherished daughter Debbie Johnson, and granddaughter Stephanie Johnson.
He is survived by his dedicated sons James, Jr. (Donna) and Steve (Theresa) and his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025, at 10am, at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave,. Brookhaven, PA, 19015 with a visitation beginning at 9am.
