Doris M. McElwee November 3, 1935 - March 29, 2023

Date of Funeral

April 6, 2023

Doris Marie McElwee, 87, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Upland, PA, she raised her family in Parkside, PA. While retired, she and her husband resided in Pot Nets, DE. She lived her later years in West Chester, PA, and the last six weeks at Merrill Gardens in Glen Mills.

Doris was a graduate of Eddystone High School, where she was a tap dancer and Majorette. She worked as a Coordinator in the Materials Center at the Davidson School @ Elwyn. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Parkside Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary. When she returned to PA, she was very involved with Mount Hope Church with the Bread of Life. She also loved to gamble and cheer on her Eagles.

Doris maintained close friendships from her childhood, getting together weekly for card games. She was always willing to try new things and worked hard to stay current. Recently, at age 86, she started taking chair yoga classes. She loved her computer, iPhone, and iPad. She texted her grandchildren and had her own Facebook and Instagram accounts. During the pandemic, when Doris couldn’t be with her family, she learned how to use zoom. Her family was her first and strongest love. She enjoyed spending time with all generations of her family and will be missed by all.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years Richard McElwee, Sr.; her son Ricky McElwee; her brother Frank Blizzard (late Margaret); and her sister Diane Lanzilotti (Frank).

She is survived by her devoted children Patty Iannucci (Sam) and Jeannie Michels (Mark); her sister Ann Acuff (Joe); her grandchildren Sammy (Melissa), Michele (Marc), Maureen (Sarah), Laura Jean (Drew), Kevin (Melanie); and her 6 great grandchildren.

Doris’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Merril Gardens and Echo Hospice for their dedicated and loving care.

Funeral service Thursday 12 noon at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, PA, 19015. Visitation Thursday 10am-12pm at the funeral home. Burial Mount Hope, Aston, PA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Bread of Life, C/O Mount Hope Church, 4020 Concord Rd., Aston, PA, 19015 or Mark Dobroski Foundation, PO Box 315, Media, PA, 19063 (her beloved yoga instructor’s son).

While our hearts are saddened by ‘Aunt Dori’s’ passing, there is so much for all of us to learn from her life! Always a smile, hug, and kind word for everyone who was fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
So many great memories growing up. We were fortunate enough to have so many of our family living in this part of Delco. So many family gatherings growing up at holidays, birthdays, and other family events. I remember one of the Christmas pictures with all the cousins strewn across a living room couch, sound asleep!

Pot Nets was the second home for the family. After many years of the beach home, my parents permanently moved there after dad’s retirement. Wasn’t long before Uncle Rich and Aunt Doris moved to Pot Nets as did Uncle Fred (Richie and my mom’s brother) & Jean!

Our prayers are with the family. May the incredible memories you have with your mom, grandmom and great grandmom help to dry the tears you now shed.

I just learned of Doris’ passing away. I’m so sorry. We were neighbor’s at her apartment complex in West Chester for years and we (my late partner Donald & I) were pool buddies during the summer and during the rest of the year we’d see each other walking around the complex or we’d see Doris on her porch with her lovely plants. She always talked so highly about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also liked to reminisce about the summers she spent at the beaches in Delaware with her husband and family.
