Emily Gayle Eckman (née Perrone), 40, passed away suddenly at Crozer-Chester Medical Center on June 14, 2022 after a courageous battle against clear cell ovarian cancer.
Emily was raised in Havertown and Wallingford, PA and graduated from Strath Haven High School in 2000, and West Chester University in 2005. Emily met her devoted husband and soulmate, Steven Eckman, at Strath Haven, and together they had two children, twins Tyler Michael and Lyla Lee. Emily was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She had a magnetic personality, incredible sense of humor, and a gift for making people feel loved and welcomed, even when meeting for the first time. She had the unique ability to build connections with everyone around her. Emily dedicated her life to her family, and loved celebrating everyone’s life milestones and achievements as the life of the party. Her favorite things to do were cheering for her children at sports games and dance recitals, spending time at the beach, and hosting friends and family on her patio. Emily took great joy in her gardens and looked forward to spring and summer when her flowers would be in full bloom.
During Emily’s nearly 3-year fight with ovarian cancer, she advocated for building awareness of ovarian cancer, a cancer that has no screening or early detection test, and worked tirelessly to fundraise for the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, an organization that provides funding to cancer survivors, as well as to research studies. Emily was dedicated to helping other women with ovarian cancer, and spent a great deal of time lending support to others who were suffering from this disease. She openly and passionately shared her story, providing hope and support for others through her energy, enthusiasm, and optimism.
In addition to her husband and children, Emily is survived by her mother, Donna Halley, father, Michael Perrone, stepfather, Tom Halley, stepmother, Alice Perrone, mother in law, Nancy Fitzgerald, sisters, Beverly (Brian) and Victoria, grandparents, George and Connie Torboss and grandmother in law, Gloria Rosato. Sister in law to Chris (Erin), Devon (Don), Natalie (Sean), Emma (Danny), Molly, Nicole, Dylan, and Jayden. Stepsister to Josh (Katie), Matt, Andrew, Keith (Vikki), and Kyle. She was a loving aunt to Abigail, William, Oliver, Owen, Audrey, Mary, Eli, and Felix. Emily is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be missed dearly by her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, June 20th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave, Brookhaven. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Wallingford Presbyterian Church., with a calling hour beginning at 9:30 a.m. 110 E. Brookhaven Rd. Wallingford. Burial to follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Rd. Springfield. We know that Emily would love it if her friends and family wore teal.
