Ethel Burns Flickenger
Ethel Burns Flickenger, 85,
passed away November 6, 2009 at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Upland, Pa. She was a resident of Parkside, Pa, for the past 10 years and previously resided in Brookhaven, Pa, since 1953.
She graduated from Frankford High School, Philadelphia, Pa, in 1942. She was a case worker in the mental health field in Delaware County for forty years. She was the vice president of the Parkside Seniors and on the executive board of the Upland Seniors. She belonged to the American Legion 777 and Upland Baptist church. She was the secretary for the Brookhaven Board of Health for 25 years. She loved to go to yard sales, playing cards, going on trips with the Seniors, reading and crossword puzzles. Above all else she loved spending time with her family and her dog Sheba. She was a Women’s Ordanance Worker (a WOW) for the U.S. Army, stationed in Philadelphia, Pa, during WWII. She was survived by her husband Robert Flickenger of 15 years and predeceased by her husband, Jack W. Burns, who passed away in 1977. She was the daughter of the late Ethel and William Read.
She was the loving mother of Carol (Anthony) Varrassi of West Brandywine, Pa, Beverly (John) Erskine of Swarthmore, Pa, and Bonnie Burns of Brookhaven, Pa. She was the stepmother of Robert (Roseann)Flickenger Jr. of Landenburg, Pa, Richard Flickenger (Cindy Richmond) of Chester Springs, Pa, Raymond Flickenger (Judy) of New Castle, De, Rosemarie Rzasa (Robert) of Hummelstown, Pa, and Rita Wherry (Michael) of Bear, De.
She was the sister of the late Ellen Young and sister in law of
Louise Thomas and Delma Williams, both of Media, Pa.
She was the proud grandmother of Ian and Eric Varrassi and great grandmother of 1. She was also the step grandmother of 12 and step great grandmother of 4.
Funeral service will be held Friday 11am at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015.
Visitation Friday 9-11 at the funeral home. Interment Media Cemetery, Media, Pa.
