Helen P. Baker
Helen P. Baker, 87, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2013 at her home. Born in Chester, Pa, she grew up in Parkside and has been a resident of Middletown Twp. since 1950. She was a 1944 graduate of Media High School and went into the Cadet Nurses Core right after high school. She did private duty nursing in the Delaware County area and also worked in retail prior to becoming a mother.
She spent two years living in the West African country of Liberia where she acted in the capacity of a compound nurse. Her loving spirit touched and impacted many lives.
She was extremely active in the Aston Little League Women’s Auxiliary and she volunteered for many years at Riddle Memorial Hospital with the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a devoted 60 year member of Middletown Presbyterian Church. She loved to travel, work on crossword puzzles, and to read. She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, particularly the Eagles and the Phillies. Above all else, she cherished her family and loved nothing more than spending time with them.
She was predeceased by her parents Helen and John Peterman; her sister Harriet Gotwals; and her grandson David Fulmele.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years (67 years as of November 22) Thomas Baker; her children Beverly (Steve) Russell; Thomas (Karen) Baker Jr., and Jay (Dawn) Baker; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday 11am at the Middletown Presbyterian Church, 273 S. Old Middletown Rd., Media, Pa, 19063. Visitation Saturday 10-11am at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
