Joan Grimes Coper, 63, of Springfield, Pa. passed away November 23, 2007 at Springfield Hospital, in Springfield, Pa. Born in Abilene, Texas she was a resident of Springfield for 39 years, she also resided in Drexel Hill, Pa. She was a graduate of Upper Darby High School in 1962, and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in 1966. She was an elementary school teacher and also a substitue teacher in the Ridley School District. She was the secretary for the Collenbrook United Church in Drexel Hill, Pa. She was a former chairman of the Democratic party in Springfield and ran for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She was the president of the local A.A.U.W., and helped organize Teens Place to Go. During high school she was a member of the Upper Darby High School Band of Fire Baton Section. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Frances Grimes. She was survived by her loving husband Gunnar Coper of Springfield, Pa. She was the sister of Donald Grimes of Swarthmore, Pa. The memorial service will take place Saturday December 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Collenbrook United Church 5290 Township Line Rd., Drexel Hill, Pa. 19026-4797.
