Beloved Uncle, John Gerard Haney of New York City, NY, died on September 13, 2007, a day after successfully reaching his eightieth birthday. Mr. Haney was born September 12, 1927 in New York City to Hugh Joseph Haney, Sr. and Margaret (Driscoll) Haney. John was predeceased by his only brother, Hugh Joseph Haney, Jr. and his sister-in-law Ann Gabriel Mea Haney. He grew up and was educated in Chester, Pa. Mr. Haney attended St. Michael’s School land Smedly Junior High School in Chester. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in Germany after WWII as a Munitions Handler. Mr. Haney had several occupations during his lifetime. Primarily, he served as a Refrigeration Engineer in the Merchant Marines. He also worked as a NYC cab driver, worked as a Engineer at the Roosevelt Hotel and on the Staten Island Ferry. He traveled the world and always kept his keen mind busy. John will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, Mrs. Ann Meehan and her husband Michael of Brookfield, Ct., Ms. Margaret Haney and her fiance John Komarnicki of Ocean View, De, Susan DeStefano and her husband Mark of Marco Island, Fl, and Hugh Haney III and his wife Linda of Swarthmore, Pa. He was also survived by seven grand nieces adn nephews and three great grand nieces adn nephews. He was a wonderfully humerous, loving, and kind uncle. As befitting, John will be cremated and his ashes spread in the ocean he loved so dearly. This will be privately done by his family. Donations can be made to the cancer charity of your choice.
