Joseph J. Monroe
Joseph J. Monroe Sr, of Brookhaven, age 73, passed away July 8, 2006 at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Uplan, Pa. Born in Philadelphia to the late James and Augustus Kohnle Monroe, he was a 1951 graduate of Ridley Park High School. He was employed by Delmarva Power and Light at the Edgemoor Power Plant as a machinist furst class mechanic retiring in March of 1998. Mr. Monroe was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He was a member of the fishing club at the West End Boat Club, and he was a veteran of the US Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Eleanor P. Monroe, nee Yaglinski, and 2 sons, Joseph J. Monroe Jr., of Newtown Square, and William Monroe of Marcus Hook, 3 daughters, Anna Nelson of Colora, MD, Susan Marsh of Newark, DE, and Elaine Monroe of Brookhaven, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by 2 brothers William Monroe and Kenneth Monroe and 2 sisters Eleanor Hammond and Judy Saks. He was predeceased by one sister, Josephine Younkin. Relatives and friends were invited to his memorial service Tues. 1 PM at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. Calling at the funeral home from 12-1 pm Tuesday. Burial will follow Lawncroft Cemetery, Linwood, Pa.
