My mother, Katherine Anne Scott was born in Covington, Virginia on Thursday, July 30th, 1953. She passed away suddenly and peacefully at age 71 on Monday, January 27th, 2025, at 2:46am, and was surrounded by loved ones the entire time. She is survived by a wonderful family with fond memories growing up in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, visiting her grandparents in Covington, experiencing student life at Tarkio College, living in Baltimore with her sister Teresa, spending time with her Daddy in New Orleans, visiting Pensacola, Florida, living with her mother and brother Jeffrey in Zelienople, and going to Taylor family re-unions. She was the third oldest out of six kids and was in the same grade as her brother Jerry. Her brothers and sisters were her best friends; she shared a kindred spirit with her sister Susan and Jeanne remembers her as a sweet sister who would just go with the flow. She enjoyed living with her mother, Betty Marie Scott (Jenkins) and her father, William Rice Scott III throughout different times in her life as an adult. Everyone says she looks like my grandmother; she was sweet and kind like her, enjoyed talking to people like her, and loved God as she did.
My mother was the best mother in the whole world, and I hear that I was the absolute joy of her life. She dedicated her whole life to me. She was my best friend and biggest supporter. She would always call me to let me know if there was a storm coming or when it was daylight savings time. She was always there to talk, text, or go out with whenever I wanted, and she was always two steps ahead of me, helping me through life. She also took very good care of my two kittie cats, Love Bug and Princess.
She loved giving gifts. Her generosity and kindness knew no bounds. She had a heart of gold. My mother was the sweetest person in the whole world, with a kind heart, who loved and cared for others unconditionally. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend.
Her smile lit up a room. She was beautiful, artistic, stylish, and a perfect lady. She loved shopping and decorating and was particularly fascinated with the victorian era. She enjoyed going to Cape May, Bethany Beach, Longwood Gardens and volunteering at the Philadelphia Flower Show. She was an amazing artist who could draw people’s faces. She also dressed up as a clown and painted kids’ faces with me and her sister.
She was an amazing baker. She loved baking pies and created a special Pumpkin Pie recipe that was so special, no other pie comes close to being as good. She cooked all sorts of desserts when I was growing up, flourless chocolate cake, scones, apple pie, and pecan pie. She also was a great cook, as are many people in the Scott family. Her chili recipe helped me win my first Chili Cook-Off, but I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to replicate her deliciously cheesy scalloped potatoes.
One year, I told her that I’d like to drive around and look at Christmas lights for Christmas Eve, and she created a detailed tour of all of the best Christmas lights and candle lit streets to see in the West Chester area. It was one of the most memorable nights of my life. This is a perfect example of how much she enjoyed getting ready for events. She loved creating beautiful outfits and planning special events to spend time with family and friends.
She worked at PNC bank most of her life as a teller supervisor but had way more fun being an extra in movies, such as The Village, In Her Shoes, and Rocky. She always wanted to be an actress. She was so excited to become a member of the Screen Actors Guild and enjoyed watching movies every year to cast her vote for the SAG awards. Most recently, she was really proud of being a Wine Specialist at Fine Wine + Good Spirits. She loved learning about wines and sharing that knowledge with others to help them select great wines for dinners and events.
What she loved most of all, are the friendships she made during her wine tastings and conversations with customers. She really cared for her friends and would tell me about them all the time. This is how I became close with Jeanne Bair, Theresa, Besty, Rose, Lauren, and Sarah. She was a loyal + true friend, and her friendship would span decades. If you are my mother’s friend, I would love for you to reach out to me.
There are two people she loved dearly that I haven’t talked about yet: Taylor Swift and Jeffrey Jones.
Her love for Taylor Swift began when I moved to California, as she thought the White Horse song would really resonate with me at the time. She was a dedicated Swiftie before anyone knew what Swifties were. Her love for Taylor Swift is endless. Taylor Swift is a loving, kind soul who brings people together to find joy, connection, and inspiration through her music, stories, and concerts. It is an experience like no other. It brought my mother a lot of joy and meaningful friendships.
Throughout the stories that she told me, it was clear to me that she never knew what a deep love really was until meeting Jeffrey Robert Jones. He was her soulmate. They were married, and together since I was 5 years old, for 39 years! He took care of us in so many ways and that really made my mom happy. She always talked about how much they both loved each other, how caring and intelligent he is, and that she really liked how close they both were to god. She loved his family, and particularly his mother Cora – I think they were a lot a like. She felt at home with his family because Jeff was also one of six kids, and also the third oldest. She has many fond memories with Jeffrey going on weekend trips to the Chesapeake, St. Michaels, Ocean City, and other small towns like New Hope. What she liked most about the life she shared with Jeffrey is that they were both homebodies. She enjoyed relaxing at home in Gradyville by the fire with their cat, Lady Gray, cooking nice dinners, and watching tv shows or special movies together. My mom was a Leo and Jeffrey is a Sagittarius, and she would tell me quite often how these two fire signs go great together.
Thank you to the Scott and Jones/Smith family for all your love and support: Susan, Teresa, Jeanne, Art + Steven, Jeff + Ali, Elijah + Tina, Vickie + Jim, Mark, Ki + Maddy, Aunt Tweet + Uncle Don, Greg, Critter, and all of my cousins, their families, and our extended families and friends.
Last week, we had a really nice dinner for those who were by my mom’s bedside, caring for her during her last days on this earth. We will be having a Celebration of Life Tea Party with a special ceremony in Cape May this summer for all of her family and friends. Message me if you would like to attend, so that I can send you an invitation.
Spread love and kindness into the world in memory of my beautiful mother who is now god’s angel. If you would like to make a donation, it would make her most happy to help Swifties meet Taylor Swift, such as through the Make a Wish Foundation or to help those mothers who are struggling to make ends meet or to those who lost homes in the Southern California Fires. If you would like to send comforting gifts or flowers, send those to either Tracey Scott or Jeffrey Jones.
Last week, heaven received the most amazing angel. We know she is up there with our family having the time of her life. We love her tremendously and she will forever be in our hearts.
Love you all,
Her daughter, Tracey Leigh Scott.
