Lan “Laura” Liao August 28, 1965 - December 18, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lan “Laura” Liao, a loving mother, devoted Christian, compassionate soul, and beacon of strength to those who knew her. Laura passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer.

Born in Zhengzhou, Henan, China, she was the middle child of three sisters. As a young woman, she made the courageous decision to build a life in the United States. Despite the challenges of navigating a new language and culture, she approached every challenge with determination and perseverance.

A woman of many hobbies, Laura had a profound appreciation for art, particularly the masterpieces of the Renaissance, which she admired with a passion that inspired those around her. In quieter moments, she found peace in the rhythm of knitting, crafting blankets, scarves, and other knick-knacks with care and love. Her creations were not just practical but imbued with the love and thoughtfulness that defined her spirit.

She also found immense joy in the natural world, particularly in birdwatching. Many of her happiest moments were spent outdoors, from national parks to local wildlife refuges, binoculars in hand, alongside her family. Her deep appreciation for the world around her extended to her bond with animals, especially her cherished cat, Miranda, who brought her comfort and companionship.

In her later years, her faith became the cornerstone of her life. Finding God transformed her in ways that brought her peace and purpose. She cherished her church community, always offering her time and energy to support others and live out her values of love and service. Her faith was her constant guide, a source of strength and wisdom that illuminated her path even during the most difficult times.

Her courage and grace were especially evident during her battle with cancer. Even in the face of difficulty and uncertainty, she embraced life with gratitude, finding joy in small moments and continuing to inspire those around her with her unwavering spirit.

She is survived by her two sisters and her son. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

A private service was held at her church, where family and friends gathered to honor and celebrate her extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Christian Church of Greater Philadelphia (TCCGP).

Laura, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. May you rest peacefully, surrounded by the birds you adored, the art you cherished, and the eternal beauty of God’s love.

All services were held privately.
