Mary (Clapcich) Sablian, 96, of Brookhaven
Mary (Clapcich) Sablian, 96, long time resident of Brookhaven, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 24, 2015, at Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence in Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park.
She was born August 13, 1919, in Santa Domenica, Italy, which is now part of Croatia. After immigrating to America in 1925, she and her family settled in Marcus Hook and then Chester.
She was the daughter of the late Anthony Clapcich and Maria (Simat) Clapcich. Mary was the wife of the late Robert M. Sablian, whom she wed on January 16, 1954. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Nataline Bursich, Angeline Utmar Greenjack and Celestina Coen.
Mary attended Chester High School and worked for many years at Scott Paper in Chester, Goodman’s Dress Shop in Brookhaven, and the Penn-Delco school district. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing traditional dishes handed down in her family for many generations. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her Phillies, Eagles and Sixers.
Mrs. Sablian is survived by sisters Anna Stanley and Eleanor Talbot (James), both of Media, brother John Clapcich (Lenida) of Brookhaven, daughter Janice Petit de Mange (James) of Sykesville, MD, sons Robert A. Sablian of Brookhaven, and John M. Sablian of Blue Bell, grandson Andrew Petit de Mange (Sara) of Medford, MA, granddaughter Jocelyn Garcia (Andrew) of Vicenza, Italy, great grandchildren Ava, Karis and Walden, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to especially thank Mrs. Sablian’s longtime neighbor Mrs. Ann Ege, and her caregiver Ms. Emebet Gebretsadik.
A viewing will be held from 9 – 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Our Lady of Charity Roman Catholic Church, 231 Upland Road, Brookhaven, PA 19015, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Lady of Charity Memorial Society. Arrangements held by the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, Brookhaven, Pa.
