Matthew “Matt” Read February 28, 1922 - December 30, 2011

Matthew (Matt) P Read, 89 passed away on December 30, 2011. He was a longtime resident of Upland, PA. He was born in Philadelphia, the son of Herbert and Rosella Reynolds Read.

Matt was a World War II army veteran – 104th infantry Timberwolves, serving in Europe. He was employed at General Electric for many years before retiring in 1981.

Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Thompson Read and his brother, Herbert Read. He is survived by a son, Philip Read of Upland and a daughter, Laurie Newton of Ocean City, MD. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and a nephew, Gene Read of Ardmore.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 7, 2012 at 11 AM at Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgemont Ave, Brookhaven. Visitation Saturday 10am-11am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Matt’s name may be made to Heartland Hospice Service, 5 Christy Dr., Suite 103, Chadds Ford, PA 19317
