Mayor Ralph A. Garzia, 87,
passed away January 14, 2009 at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media, Pa. Born in Marcus Hook, Pa,
he has been a resident of Brookhaven, Pa, for over 50 years and has lived his entire life in Delaware County. He graduated from the Eddystone High School in 1940. He was the Mayor of Brookhaven, Pa, for 31 years. He was a Boiler maker for Sinclair from 1951-1978 and a Real Estate agent for Century 21 Calderone from 1979-1995. He served two terms in the State of Representatives for Pennsylvania from 1975-1978. He was the Mayor of Brookhaven, Pa, for 31 years. He was on the Board of Directors for the Delaware County Blind Center for 25 years, a member of Brookhaven Senior Citizens, A.A.R.P., Senior Games Walking, Our Lady of Charity Charitans, Our Lady of Charity Parish where he was an usher for many years, Parkside Senior Citizens, VFW Post of Brookhaven, and The American Legion. He was awarded the 50 Years of Straight Voting award. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was awarded the good conduct medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Bronze Star Victory Medal, and the EAME Th Ser Med w/2.
He was the beloved husband of Carole Garzia of Brookhaven, Pa. He was the father of Dr. Ralph P Garzia of Missouri. He was the step father of Douglas Wright of North Coventry, Pa, and David Wright of LA, Cal. He was the brother of the late Anthony Garzia and the late Rose Garzia. He was the grandfather of Nicholas, Camille, and Luke and the great grandfather of Rosalie and Jospeh. Funeral service Thursday, January 22, 2009 11am at Our Lady of Charity Parish, 231 Upland Rd., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015. Friends may call Wednesday evening, January 21, 2009 6-9pm at the Brookhaven Municipal Building, #2 Cambridge Rd., Brookhaven, Pa, 19015 and also Thursday the 22nd 9:30am-11am at the church.
