Mildred Mary McGinnis (known to those that knew her best as Mickey), 75, passed away peacefully at Christiana Wilmington Hospital surrounded by her loving husband of 55 years, and family. She was reunited in heaven with her daughter, Kelly White, who passed away in 2020. She was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, formerly of Marcus Hook, and resided in Claymont, Delaware.
She was one of eight children, and was the daughter of the late Catherine Isabell (McKnight) and Charles Albert Kelly Sr. She was married to Michael (Mike) T McGinnis on October 3, 1970, at the First Baptist Church in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Her first occupation was an assembly line worker at Wyeth Laboratories, then later as a retail sales associate for Boscov’s (seasonal department) for close to 20 years. Always wanting to keep busy, she was also a bartender at the Brandywine Club in Claymont, DE for nearly 20 years, up until her passing. She was known as an outspoken and hard worker who became friends with those she worked beside.
Mickey was small in stature but was a force to be reckoned with, and who always put family first. She would drop anything to be with and help those she loved. She was the type of person who embodied both strength and compassion. She was resilient, would be your biggest supporter and possessed a kind and generous spirit.
She loved playing the lottery, attending family gatherings and taking trips to the beach with her husband, Mike, and family. She loved going to Ocean City, MD often to eat crabs and enjoy the ocean view. She had many sayings but was known best for “It is what it is”. She loved country music and never missed an opportunity to be on a dance floor. She was also an avid beagle lover and was mother to many “Dixies” over the years.
Mickey was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will forever be remembered for her infectious laugh and quick wit, finding humor in times when it was needed most. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved so very much. She will forever be known as Mom Mom to them and often gave them her words of advice to “always work hard and always have fun”.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael McGinnis; her brother, Edward Kelly, Sr. (Margie); her sister-in-law, Barbara Kelly; her brother-in-law, Edward Leary Sr.; her three grandchildren (Mikey, Andrew and Kelsea White) and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her daughter and parents, Mickey is predeceased in death by her siblings Alice Marshall (William), Charles Kelly (Betty), Donald Kelly, Katherine (Kitty) Kelly, David Kelly and Janet Leary.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mickey’s name to the American Cancer Society at Donate Today | The American Cancer Society.
