Robert “Bob” Montella, Sr., 76, passed away Monday December 3, 2018 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, Bob was a graduate of St. James Catholic High School. He was employed by Conrail in Records Management Department, retiring in 1999. He also was employed by Delaware County Voting Machine Bureau. Bob was a past Assistant Chief with The Briarcliffe Fire Company Station 75. Bob joined the Brookhaven Fire Company in 1972, after moving from Briarcliffe to Brookhaven. Bob has 46 years of Active Volunteer Service to the Brookhaven community and was a life time active member of the Brookhaven Fire Co Station 52. He held numerous positions throughout his years of service, including Foreman, Captain, Assistant Chief, and Chief. On the administrative side of Brookhaven Fire Co., he was Fire Treasurer, longtime chairman of the Board of Governors, and Chairman for the New Building Committee.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, trips to the New Jersey Shore, riding the Cape May Lewes Ferry, driving his golf cart, trains, and attending his sons and grandchildren’s sporting events. He also coached Brookhaven Teener and Little League Baseball.
He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Montella.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years Ann Montella; his father Albert Montella; his sons Robert Montella, Jr. (Patti), David Montella (Janet); step sons George McDonnell and Matthew Gilger; brother Jerry (Mary); his grandchildren Robert W., Katie, David, Megan, Ed, Alex, Chris, Josh, Matt, Jr., Adrianna, Aubrey, Rhiannon, and Samantha; 2 great grandchildren Mackenzie and Chase. Bob is also survived by his nieces and nephews and his fire service family and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to his funeral Mass Friday 11am at Our Lady of Charity Church, 231 Upland Rd., Brookhaven, PA, 19015. Viewing and visitation from 9-10:45am at the church. Burial Mount Hope Cemetery, Aston, PA.
