Stephen Andrew Mayer
Stephen Andrew Mayer passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 24, 2024. Stephen was born in South Philadelphia, PA, on Sunday April 18, 1948, to Conchetta and Andrew Mayer. He grew up in the Lawrence Park/Broomall area of Delaware County and graduated from Marple Newtown High School. Stephen’s areas of studies included basic math, science, history, and evolution. He found Charles Darwin fascinating. He and his family would take trips to the Jersey Shore in towns like Wildwood and Atlantic City.
He has worked as a house painter, maintenance helper and a veterinarian’s assistant. He loved animals!
Stephen came to Elwyn/Harmony Hall on January 26, 2006. He always participated in house activities like morning exercise, coloring, painting and loved writing his thoughts down in his journal. Whenever there was a house meeting, Stephen was full of ideas and suggestions. Always thoughtful, Stephen was always one of the first residents to welcome new residents into Harmony Hall. When he was able, Stephen would help his fellow residents with mobility issues with their laundry or get their juice for breakfast. If he promised he would help someone with anything, he stuck to his promises. Stephen loved sports and was a fan of the Phillies, Eagles and 76ers and enjoyed watching the games on tv.
Stephen always had a kind word for everyone and was a snazzy dresser. Whether it was his favorite sports team hats and shirts or standard outfits, he liked to be stylishly coordinated. Team baseball caps and a Rosary necklace were mandatory with his daily outfits.
He loved music! He loved listening to music and watching music videos. Some of his favorite artists were Beethoven, Queen, and of course, The Beatles. He played keyboards, flute, and guitar. His favorite foods were steak, hoagies, seafood, and his drink of choice was diet coke. He loved the holidays. His favorites were Christmas, Halloween, and his birthday.
Stephen is survived by his housemates and staff of Harmony Hall.
