William J. “Bill” Atz Jr., age 91, of Kennett Square, PA formerly of Milmont Park, passed away peacefully on May 11th. Born on a farm in Thornton, Pa, to the late William J. Atz, Sr., and Susan C. Atz (Broadbelt). Bill was a graduate of West Chester High School. Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy, “Dottie” A. Atz, (Bevans).
Bill is preceded in death by his sister Elsie Sutton (Atz) of Florida, as well as his two sons-in-law, Richard Leflar and Gary Thomas.
Bill was a very hard-working father and was employed for 32 years with Scott Paper/Foamex as a manager, as well as working for the Acme as a store associate for 25 years. He was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, serving as the Head Elder and President for many years. Bill was an avid Phillies fan. He loved their pet dogs over the years, Muggsy and especially Petey.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved Dottie. Bill had a standard answer to a lot of questions over the years, “Dottie says”. Bill was a very caring and loving person and family always came first. Whenever someone needed a hand, Bill was always the first person to step up and help.
He is survived by his children Debra Leflar of Brookhaven, Pa., Donna Thomas, of Bellevue, Nebraska, John Atz (Sue) of Sykesville, Maryland, Thomas Atz (Bev) of Wallingford, Pa., Rick Atz (Charlene) of Papillion, Nebraska, step-sons Bud Stillman (Karen) of Drumore, Pa, David Stillman (Becky) of Chester County, Pa. Bill is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Brandywine Living for their dedicated and loving care.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16th with a one hour viewing beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Bateman-Allen Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave, Brookhaven, PA 19015. Burial will be private.
